Welcoming Spring at Al-Rahmah
As the daylight returns to Glasgow and Ramadan approaches, our community prepares for a season of renewal…
Alhamdulillah. After the long, dark months of a Scottish winter, spring arrives in Glasgow like a quiet mercy. The days stretch a little longer, the skies — when they cooperate — carry a softer light, and there is a feeling in the air that something new is beginning.
For the community of Al-Rahmah, spring carries a meaning that goes beyond the changing of seasons. This year, as the blossoms begin to appear in the Southside parks and the birds return to Pollokshields, we find ourselves approaching the most blessed month of the Islamic calendar: Ramadan.
A Season of Renewal
Allah سبحانه وتعالى has built renewal into the very fabric of His creation. Every spring is a sign — a reminder that after hardship comes ease, after darkness comes light, and after winter comes growth. The Prophet ﷺ encouraged us to reflect on these signs:
“Indeed, in the creation of the heavens and the earth and the alternation of the day and the night are signs for those of understanding.” — Surah Aal-Imran 3:190
As Ramadan draws near, we invite you to approach this season as a spiritual spring — a time to clear what has gathered in the heart over the year, to return to the Quran, to repair relationships, and to re-establish the habits of worship that nourish the soul.
What’s Coming at Al-Rahmah This Spring
Our centre is preparing for what we pray will be our most vibrant Ramadan yet. Community Iftars will be open every Friday and Saturday — free for all, especially for students, new residents, and anyone who would otherwise break their fast alone. Tarawih will be led nightly by our Hafiz Imams, with the full Khatm al-Quran completed over the 30 nights.
For those who have never attended a Tarawih, or who haven’t been in years, we gently say: this is your season. Al-Rahmah’s doors are open to everyone — whatever your level of practice, whatever your background, wherever you are in your journey.
A Message for the Community
Spring is also a time when many families think about their children’s Islamic education. If you have been considering enrolling your child in Ar-Rahmah Academy, or if you yourself have been thinking about joining our adult Tajweed class, there is no better moment than now. New terms begin after Ramadan — places fill quickly, so please do get in touch.
As we welcome this new season together, we make du’a that Allah grants us a Ramadan full of barakah, that He accepts our fasting and our prayers, and that He unites this community in His mercy.
Ramadan Mubarak in advance — from all of us at Al-Rahmah.
